Care Guide

Shiringa (Natural rubber)

Shiringa organic latex originates in the Peruvian rainforest, extracted by making shallow diagonal cuts in the bark of a Shiringa rubber tree to collect the milky latex sap, then applied to a cotton fabric and dried or smoked for finishing, resulting in a waterproof and warm material. These garments are the result of a long process of investigation and experimentation in the Madre de Dios province, where Mozhdeh collaborates with local families that are guardians of the Shiringa forests.

How to clean:
Remove dirt with a damp cloth or sponge with water. Dry with a soft cloth or let the piece dry at room temperature. Natural latex can degrade with UV light, heat, and humidity.

How to care for Shiringa
If you like to maintain a glossy finish on your rubber garments, consider applying a layer of tea tree oil, jojoba oil, or a natural wax—these also help prevent mold. Applying protective coatings can further prevent deterioration, a common cause of stickiness.

How to store Shiringa
Avoid folding. Hang in a cool, dry place away from direct heat. If you are storing the piece for an extended period of time we recommend hanging it with plenty of room around it and away from light to prevent it from becoming porous or discoloured.

Backstrap loom & Handloom

Handmade fabrics, made by local artisans using different techniques such as backstrap loom and handloom, these garments are crafted from baby alpaca, wool, cotton, or a blend.

Washing
Because of the techniques used in the production of these textiles, we recommend hand-washing in cold water with mild soap, or dry cleaning only.

Storage
To prevent any marks on the fabrics, loom-woven garments should be hung with care.

Knitwear & Crochet

Garments crafted from baby alpaca, wool, and cotton, or a blend. These pieces are created with a variety of techniques such as handmade crochet, jacquards, fine gauge, and knitting machine.

Washing
Because of the techniques used in the production of these textiles, we recommend hand-washing in cold water with mild soap, or using a dry cleaner only.

Storage
Fold garments and blankets and store them in breathable cotton bags.

Handpaint

These garments are a later addition to the universe of Mozhdeh Matin; they respond to daily and casual wear. These pieces are made of cotton and individually hand-painted. Each piece is unique in its making. For this segment of clothes, Mozhdeh works in collaboration with an artist; the cycle was inaugurated by Japanese artist Minami Utsutsugawa.

Washing
These cotton pieces can be washed in a washing machine, preferably in a delicate cycle.

Storage
These pieces can be stored folded or hanging.

Baby Alpaca Fur

The sourcing of the baby alpaca fur comes from a collaboration with a project in the highlands of Perú that focuses on the utilisation of the fur from alpacas that die prematurely due to extreme weather, climate change, and the harsh conditions of the Andes. This initiative was created to prevent the fur from going to waste.

Cleaning
Avoid contact with water whenever possible. Dry clean only.

Storage
Store in a cotton fabric pouch to prevent shedding and to maintain its softness.

Baby Alpaca

Baby alpaca is the softest and finest grade of alpaca wool, typically sourced from the high-altitude regions in the Andes, the first shearing of an adult alpaca, or from areas of the body where the fleece is naturally finer - like the neck or chest, this offers a characteristic silky, smooth and gentle feel on the skin, and a higher breathable quality than sheep wool.

How to wash Baby alpaca
For laundering, we recommend gentle dry cleaning only. Baby alpaca does not require laundering after every wear and should be laundered only when necessary or at the end of each winter season. Baby alpaca pieces can also be aired under the sun occasionally to remove bacteria and odors, reducing the need for frequent washing.

How to store baby alpaca
Alpaca should be stored folded, not hung, and away from sunlight. We recommend storing your natural wools and hairs with cedar balls to prevent moth damage. For more structured garments, such as coats, we recommend that you store the piece hanging, using a coat-specific hanger to provide support to the shoulder area. For further protection, store in a light and breathable garment bag.

How to care for baby alpaca
Being a natural fiber, baby alpaca may experience light shedding. This is to be expected and can be easily removed with a depill comb or soft bristle brush. We recommend regular de-pilling to ensure the longevity of your baby alpaca piece.

Wool

This natural fiber comes from Merino sheep, ethically and sustainably sourced from the highlands of Southern Peru, such as Puno, Arequipa, Cusco, and Ayacucho.

How to wash wool
For laundering, we recommend gentle dry clean only. Wool does not require laundering after every wear and should be laundered only when necessary, or at the end of each winter season. Wool pieces can also be aired under the sun occasionally to remove bacteria and odors, reducing the need for frequent washing.

Beading work

The production of these pieces comes from the collaboration with the Shipibo-Konibo, a group of women who preserve the traditions and artistry from the Amazon. With them, we collaborate on the creation of accessories.

Cleaning
Gently soak in cold water with mild soap for 2 to 3 hours, then rinse, and lay flat to dry. It is usually the thread holding the beads that gets dusty, and a quick rinse will clean it effectively.

Storage
Store in a fabric pouch to protect it from dust and contamination.
